Fifth Grade Humor

Here is a perfect example of why an eleven year old has no business owning a cell phone. My eleven year old, anyways. Brayden left on a charter bus Friday afternoon for a school trip and is on his way home now. A few minutes ago I decided to text him and check on them so I will know when to expect them home. Yes...text. Because isn't it stupid to dial the number and actually talk to someone on a phone when you can take twice as long and type it out? Ahem....here is our conversation. I mean...texting.

Me: Where are you guys?

Brayden: I don't know.

Me: Why don't you ask someone?

Brayden: I did.

Me: You are like talking to a wall.

Brayden: Thank you.

Well...at least we know he is still alive and that is what is important, right?

Very Strange

Something really weird happened me to today...

We went out to lunch after church at Red Robin. We had already planned to make a quick run to Target after we ate so I ran to the bathroom before we left. I had just drank a lot of water and didn't want to get stuck in Target and have to make a pit stop. I told Stephen I was going to run to the bathroom real quick and jumped up to go. I have never been in the bathroom at Red Robin but that was no big deal.

I get in the restroom. Keep in mind I had to go really bad so I went quickly. I get in the stall to do my business and notice the person next to me is helping a small child. Then I heard the person speak to the small child and the first thing I thought was, "Wow...that woman has a low voice." Then they spoke again a little louder to the child and my next thought was, "Surely a man didn't bring his little girl into the woman's restroom!" Then they walked by my stall and they both have on running shoes.

Then crazy thoughts started rushing through my head.

"Oh my goodness! I am in the men's restroom! Oh no! What do I do? What if they see my shoes? What if they think I am a cross dresser?"

Someone else comes in so I peek under the stall door and check out their shoes. Running shoes again.

Still thinking to myself "I can't come out of my stall now! They will see that I had to go so bad that I accidentally went into the men's restroom! I need to hold my feet up so they can't see my black sling backs that are so obviously female but how without falling into the toilet?" (And besides the fear of accidentally going into a men's restroom, I do have a fear of falling into toilets because trust me....it can happen and that is another blog post for another day!)

Back to thinking to myself, "Oh no. Oh no. What do I do? What do I do? Okay...when these people leave I will skip the hand washing and run for my table and hope no one sees me coming out of the men's restroom! Are you kidding me!?! More people are coming in? Why is everyone having to go all at the same time?"

Whew.....it was two woman talking!

Maybe this story will help get your Monday morning off to a good start!

And now I know from now on you will always double check the door before you EVER enter a public restroom!

Toddler Talk 101 #1

Everyone knows that when you have a child that is around two it is like having a child that speaks a different language. Well...that would be, in fact, because they do! We have always called it "jibber jabber". I can't tell you how many two year old Bible classes I have taught and had a child jibber at me shaking their head as if to convince me of something and have no idea what they are saying. Which I in turn reply, "Yes! That is right!" I can remember my mother telling me with Blaine, who spoke jibber jabber the best of any child I have ever heard, that I should probably stop telling him, "Yes! You are!", in case he was asking permission to jump from the highest point of our two story home at the time. Because he would do that. So That is when I changed my response to, "I'm not sure about that!" So I thought I would make a list of some of the words that Bryson is saying that most people have no idea what he is saying or for people that don't get to see him much can get an idea of how much he is changing. I know I won't remember them all because he is talking a lot now...but you will get the idea!

Body----battery

Tee-choo---that would be thank you or tissue

b-ball----that could be several things...basically anything remotely shaped like a ball...now you just get to guess which ball he is talking about before he gets completely and totally aggravated with you!

Bane----Blaine

Bay-nen---Brayden

showder----shower

bay Wonan----baby Roman

Mee Mow----Mickey Mouse

Dah-yee tuk----daddy's truck

me me----his Aunt Aimee

pay---pray

Nemo----no, not the fish...that's Elmo

doo----juice

choco meo----chocolate milk

un dat---I want that

So there you have it. Maybe now you can carry on a conversation in jibber jabber if the need arises!

It's Spring!

I can't believe I have neglected my blog for this long! But we have been super busy. A lot of things have happened since the last post so I will try not to drag this out too long.
Once we got everyone well, we celebrated Bryson's second birthday with family and close friends with a Mickey Mouse cake that he picked out himself. His Aunt Aimee got us tickets to the circus for his birthday so we spent the afternoon there. It was really good and the kids had a great time. Bryson only got fidgety for a few minutes but still did really good. Blaine and Brayden took money for cotton candy. And when Blaine has money it burns holes in his pockets so he got cotton candy and popcorn for a grand total of $20.00. But he was really sweet and shared every bit of it with Bryson "cause he doesn't have money yet"!
Then after all the partying we got back to our regular schedule, meaning someone got sick. Stephen ended up with a stomach bug and missed two days of work. He has not missed a day of work since he had his wisdom teeth taken out in 2003. And that was the first time I think he had ever taken a sick day at all! Isn't that crazy?
Baseball practices are in full swing but I have gotten a break from that since this is Spring Break and the older boys are with their dad this week. This is always hard because it is a total of 10 days they are gone. But they are adjusting well and it seems they appreciate being home more when they come back. Bryson has only asked for them a few times so I guess he is adjusting well also.
Baby Roman came last Thursday so I have spent a lot of time showing Bryson pictures of him on the computer. He cries to see him and gets mad when I shut down the computer. He was little bitty but strong and healthy. I wish I could snuggle him and see his feet, but we will have to wait until we can get some time off to go visit. Needless to say, another reason I haven't blogged is because I have been sewing like a crazy woman. In the car rider line, at red lights, when Stephen is driving, early in the morning before the sun comes up and late at night after everyone is in bed. I have sewed so much Bryson will say, "Mommy...you sewin'? Bay-yee Wonan?" I have all the blocks finished and as soon as I can dig out my machine (hopefully when Bryson gets up...it is in the closet off his room) I can get it all pieced together. It is turning out cute...still not sure about the rick rack.
And then there is the garden. Stephen has been working on getting the garden beds ready. Everyone in the family has told Stephen what they want in the garden and he has drawn it out and found room for all of our requests. The boys have agreed to be in charge of certain vegetables and they seem excited. Honestly, I think Bryson's excitement is the only one that will keep going through out the summer, but we will see.
And did I mention today is the first day of spring?!? That means we are closer to warmer weather hanging around and actually getting to plant the garden. Spring and fall are my favorite seasons. Can't say I get excited about summer in the south. The Yankee still comes out in me with the heat and humidity down here.
Well, I am going to wrap it up here. I've got lots to get done here today. I will try to post pictures of the progress on my quilt soon. But I can't show to much because Roman's mommy will read this and it won't be a surprise! I hope everyone has a good first day of spring and a great weekend because I know I probably won't post again before next week!
