Here are a few conversations that I had posted on my facebook page over the last few weeks. I am copying and pasting here for all you not on facebook :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bryson: "MOM! Why did you burn my bacon?!? It is SO good like this! Can you burn my bacon everyday?"
Me: "Sure. I could probably do that for you everyday. I'm glad you like it."
While reading tonight from the Magic Treehouse Books, where Jack and Annie are in Africa....
Me: "Laughing Hyenas are known to be thieves and cowards."
Bryson: "OH! So they smell good!"
Me: "Um....no."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Conversations with Bryson....on the way home from dropping off Blaine to spend the night with a friend....
Bryson: "Why don't I ever get to spend the night with someone?"
Me: "Because you have a class full of girls."
Bryson: "Can I spend the night with Brayden?"
Me: "I guess so. If it's okay with Brayden."
Bryson: " YES! I need to go pack my suitcase!!!!"
Me: "You're going across the hall."
Bryson: "I know! I am so excited!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Earlier today when I was getting ready, the TV in my bedroom was on and
it was on TLC. A Baby Story was on and the lady was pregnant with
triplets.
Conversation with Bryson....
Me: "She is going to have 3 babies at once! Do you know what that is called?"
Bryson: "A double?"
Me: "No. Triplets."
Bryson: "Oh, like in baseball, when Brayden hit a triplet!"
Me: "Ummmm.......yeah. Kinda like that. Maybe."
Bryson: "I.am.a.genius."
Me: "Yes, you are."
Pauses to think about this......
Bryson: "Are we triplets?"
Me: "No. If you all were triplets, you would all be the same age."
Then he starts getting slightly irritated....
Bryson: "But I want to be triplets!!!!"
Me: "Too bad."
Have a great week!
My Future Baseball Player
If Bryson doesn't end up being a baseball pitcher, he has missed his calling. I don't know how many times I have had something thrown at me while I am doing something. I have taken a full sippy cup to the nose, a real baseball to my left cheek bone, and numerous other things that my child will pick up and throw at me. And he doesn't just toss it either. He throws it so fast and so hard that a lot of times I don't even have time to react.
This morning I was fixing his breakfast and he snuck into the kitchen behind me and nailed me with a quarter he found somewhere. If I had to guess he had probably been scrounging around in his brothers' room. He likes to steal their money that they don't put away and put it in his own piggy bank. They get really mad because I don't stop him from doing this. Maybe I should...but the way I see it is....if they wanted it they would put it away right? After all....I am their mother, not their guard of all things that they trash their room with. Which is a lot.
Back to the story....
I told him that it hurt and asked him not to throw money at me. He didn't say anything and I went about my business of fixing his breakfast. He did it again. I explained that if he threw it and it went into his food, I would have to throw the food away. He didn't say anything again, but went into the other room. He came back a minute or two later and stood behind me. He mumbled something to me. I wasn't sure what he said so I asked him to say it again.
"I'm sorry Mommy."
My heart melted! My child had told me he was sorry without being forced to apologize! Which as most of us know, that is the only way you will get an apology out of a two year old. And sometimes an 8 and 11 year old. I leaned down and kissed him and told him that I forgave him. and he said something else.
"I'm sorry I threw money Mommy."
I always tell my kids that when they tell someone they are sorry don't just mumble "I'm sorry" to them . Tell them what you are sorry for! It doesn't mean anything if you are told to apologize and you don't even look them in the eye and then mumble it under your breathe. That is not truly being sorry. That is trying to get yourself out of trouble. But Bryson said it to me and he was truly sorry.
I am telling you this to encourage all you parents that feel like you are talking to a brick wall sometimes with your kids, because I know sometimes I feel that way. They truly are listening to you. Sometimes it just takes awhile! :)
This is Not a Just a Recipe Blog!
Just letting you know. In case that is what you were thinking. We have been super busy. I know. Who hasn't right? Baseball will be over in a few weeks and maybe that will help. We have been so busy at work that I have had to start bringing my work home just to keep my head above water.
Oh, and about all the rain...sorry there has been so much. It seems like when both of the boys have games at the same time, different fields, or are over lapping somehow, we tend to pray for rain.
Ahem. Don't tell the coaches.
It's Spring!
I can't believe I have neglected my blog for this long! But we have been super busy. A lot of things have happened since the last post so I will try not to drag this out too long.
Once we got everyone well, we celebrated Bryson's second birthday with family and close friends with a Mickey Mouse cake that he picked out himself. His Aunt Aimee got us tickets to the circus for his birthday so we spent the afternoon there. It was really good and the kids had a great time. Bryson only got fidgety for a few minutes but still did really good. Blaine and Brayden took money for cotton candy. And when Blaine has money it burns holes in his pockets so he got cotton candy and popcorn for a grand total of $20.00. But he was really sweet and shared every bit of it with Bryson "cause he doesn't have money yet"!
Then after all the partying we got back to our regular schedule, meaning someone got sick. Stephen ended up with a stomach bug and missed two days of work. He has not missed a day of work since he had his wisdom teeth taken out in 2003. And that was the first time I think he had ever taken a sick day at all! Isn't that crazy?
Baseball practices are in full swing but I have gotten a break from that since this is Spring Break and the older boys are with their dad this week. This is always hard because it is a total of 10 days they are gone. But they are adjusting well and it seems they appreciate being home more when they come back. Bryson has only asked for them a few times so I guess he is adjusting well also.
Baby Roman came last Thursday so I have spent a lot of time showing Bryson pictures of him on the computer. He cries to see him and gets mad when I shut down the computer. He was little bitty but strong and healthy. I wish I could snuggle him and see his feet, but we will have to wait until we can get some time off to go visit. Needless to say, another reason I haven't blogged is because I have been sewing like a crazy woman. In the car rider line, at red lights, when Stephen is driving, early in the morning before the sun comes up and late at night after everyone is in bed. I have sewed so much Bryson will say, "Mommy...you sewin'? Bay-yee Wonan?" I have all the blocks finished and as soon as I can dig out my machine (hopefully when Bryson gets up...it is in the closet off his room) I can get it all pieced together. It is turning out cute...still not sure about the rick rack.
And then there is the garden. Stephen has been working on getting the garden beds ready. Everyone in the family has told Stephen what they want in the garden and he has drawn it out and found room for all of our requests. The boys have agreed to be in charge of certain vegetables and they seem excited. Honestly, I think Bryson's excitement is the only one that will keep going through out the summer, but we will see.
And did I mention today is the first day of spring?!? That means we are closer to warmer weather hanging around and actually getting to plant the garden. Spring and fall are my favorite seasons. Can't say I get excited about summer in the south. The Yankee still comes out in me with the heat and humidity down here.
Well, I am going to wrap it up here. I've got lots to get done here today. I will try to post pictures of the progress on my quilt soon. But I can't show to much because Roman's mommy will read this and it won't be a surprise! I hope everyone has a good first day of spring and a great weekend because I know I probably won't post again before next week!
Randomness
So insomnia strikes again. But that did give me time to fold some laundry and finally get my pictures on here. I attempted again last night and it still didn't work for me. I guess third times a charm.
Last night we got home from church just in time for the boys to see the last couple of pitches of the World Series. I don't get to tell much about Brayden on here....just because....well he doesn't say or do a whole lot at this stage in his life really worth repeating. Unless you want me to pass along to you shut up, can I play the Wii, or kick you. You know...fifth grade. But last night while they were watching the rest of the game one of the boys asked what a Philly was. I told them a horse. Now if that was their team mascot, I had no idea. I just answered the question.
Brayden looked at me and said, "Then why do they have a big green booger for a mascot?"
"Good question. I have no idea."
Don't know. Don't care.
Tuesday night I lost Bryson again. In the house. This happens fairly often, seeing how he enjoys hiding from me and laughs at me as I go screaming in panic throughout the house. When he does this I can see him in my mind choking on all the things his brothers leave out for him to play with, maybe a pencil in the eye, you know, all the things they are already supposed to have put away. Complete parental panic.
As I was calling his name I could hear him but I couldn't find him. I tried following his voice but he didn't talk long enough and not to mention all the noise of his brothers and the TV. Finally when I called out, "Where are you Bryson?" this was my response:
"I go PEEEEEE!"
WHAT?
He repeated himself. Several times. Then I realized my bathroom door was shut. He has been going into rooms lately and closing the door but the poor kid is so short that he can't reach the doorknob to get back out. So I slowly opened the door, as he is always standing close to it trying to get back out. The door slammed in my face as he yelled at me for intruding. I tried it again. Slam.
I waited a second and tried to listen to see what in the world he was up to. This time when I opened the door I found out. He was standing in front of the toilet taking his diaper off and screaming at the top of his lungs, "I go PEEEE!"
Well...let's break out the little potty then!
That ended up backfiring and being a really bad idea. But I did it. And seeing how little ones like him already know they have an audience of big brothers, it didn't go over well. For me anyway. I pulled the potty out. He sat down. He giggled. He walked around it. He took it apart. He got inside of it and got his feet stuck. It fell over with him still stuck in it. I picked him up, put it all back together and sat him back on it correctly. He then figured out that when he leaned back against the lid it was like a recliner so he sat there naked as a jaybird "reclining" in his new lay-z-boy with his "stuff" pointing everywhere but the potty. All of this with his audience giggling. Except for me, of course. Because the "stuff" was pointing my way. Keep in mind, while all this is going on he is still screaming his new favorite phrase of "I go PEEE!". By this point he was as aggravated at me for correcting how he was sitting as I was with him for not pointing in the right direction. He stands up, walks around the potty chair, holds it and aims, all while making all the sound affects of someone using the potty. "PPSSSTTTT! PPPSSSTTTT!" Then he walked off, squatted, and peed in the floor. I quickly grabbed him and placed him back on the potty as he screamed at me for interrupting. He even stopped going to yell at me. He went right back to the same spot and finished.
I thought maybe he could just sit on it with his diaper on, to kinda get used to the feeling of it, ya know? NO. That didn't work either. I hid the potty after he went to bed. The next morning I took him to my parents and I told him to tell Grandma what he had done that night. He patted the front of hid diaper and said very quietly, "I go pee."
I bribed him with ice cream that night to get him to put his diaper back on. He was happy staying naked, but by this point I didn't trust him. Open Season was on and we watched the end as we ate ice cream. He pointed to the TV and said, "Dog!" I corrected him and told him it was a bear and a deer. Blaine looks at me like that was the craziest thing I could have ever said.
"That's not a deer! It's a cantaloupe!"
Oh. My bad. I stand corrected.
The look on Brayden's face was priceless.
The Cup and the Scotch Tape
My Mom always tells me if she got stranded on a desert island the one person she would want to be stranded with is my eight year old, Blaine. He always has an answer for everything and if he can't figure something out he will come up with ideas on how we should try something.
Being divorced and going to their Dad's house a few days each week makes it hard on the boys to keep up with their things. There is never a visit that goes by that we don't have to call and ask their Dad to bring something home. One day one of them may get up and be completely out of socks or underwear. They might have a ball game in 15 minutes and realize they don't have their cleats. Or hat. Or Glove. You name it...they have forgotten it.
Saturday we were supposed to be at the ball field at 9:30. I usually get up early. That morning I decided to sleep in and didn't get up until 6:30. No big deal. That was plenty of time for us to all get ready and be at the field in time. You would think. We ate breakfast and I sent the boys to get their uniforms on. Keep in mind they had already made time to play the playstation.
We don't want to have withdrawals now do we?
Everyone is getting ready and Blaine comes in and informs me that he doesn't have his jock strap. He had his cup but nothing to hold it in place. I told him to call his dad and ask him to quickly bring it over. He called and of course he can't find it. That was no surprise. So we looked again at our house to make sure we had not overlooked it. It was no where to be found. My husband informed me that it was gonna take him catching a line drive right in the "boys" to keep up with his jock strap. I told him we didn't have time to do anything else. It was already time for us to leave and he is still standing there in his underwear.
You know that look that your kids have on their faces when they are up to something? You know the look I am talking about.
He had that look.
"What are you up to, Blaine?"
"Nothing." (With the look all over his face.)
"Okay...I taped my cup on."
"You what?"
"Can you hear me crinklin'?"
He wasn't kidding. He did a little wiggle and yep...he was crinkling. I asked him if he was seriously going to wear a cup taped to his body. What if it didn't stay? What if he is running to home plate and it falls out his pant leg? It was only scotch tape. Not duct tape. He demonstrated how it would stay in place and ran down the hallway and back.
As moms we have to choose our battles, right? I decided this would be a good lesson in how you should listen to your mother sometimes. Maybe I needed to let him get embarrassed when his cup fell out his pant leg. Hmmm......this could be interesting.
It didn't last long. He said the crinkling was getting on his nerves and we were back to square one. Stephen told him to just stick it in his underwear. Blaine looked at him like that was the weirdest thing anyone had ever said to him.
But scotch tape wasn't weird?
He ended up wearing another pair of undies over the other pair with the cup sandwiched in the middle. He told me that was the best idea ever. I don't wear cups. Not there, anyway...Thanks Stephen!
We had a good day at the ball field. It was the last ball game for both of the boys and now we can have our life back! Until basketball starts in a couple of weeks. The weather was nice, so I fried because I forgot to put on my sunscreen. It doesn't take much ya know. Blaine got walked a couple of times and that is all I remember since I am also chasing an 18 month old at this point.
Brayden has always either pitched or played short stop. This year he has been in the outfield and has gotten really discouraged. My husband has explained to him over and over that it is completely different than playing in the infield. He missed a few balls this season and is really hard on himself when he messes up. He got to play third and first base this past Saturday. Maybe other places too, but remember....18 month old. He was part of a double play the last play of the game and was so excited! What a way to end the season!
Then I find out we have a tournament.
Oh well...it was nice while it lasted.
We had a good day at the ball field. It was the last ball game for both of the boys and now we can have our life back! Until basketball starts in a couple of weeks. The weather was nice, so I fried because I forgot to put on my sunscreen. It doesn't take much ya know. Blaine got walked a couple of times and that is all I remember since I am also chasing an 18 month old at this point.
Brayden has always either pitched or played short stop. This year he has been in the outfield and has gotten really discouraged. My husband has explained to him over and over that it is completely different than playing in the infield. He missed a few balls this season and is really hard on himself when he messes up. He got to play third and first base this past Saturday. Maybe other places too, but remember....18 month old. He was part of a double play the last play of the game and was so excited! What a way to end the season!
Then I find out we have a tournament.
Oh well...it was nice while it lasted.
